Veterans' Affairs

Welcome home and thank you for your service to our Country!
You served us, now it’s our turn to serve you. Veteran Services is here to assist you in achieving your educational and career goals.

Gateway Community College is committed to providing high quality services to our Veteran students. The Veteran Services office, located Room N212, serves as the point of contact for all Veteran students. Veterans are connected to both internal and external resources aimed at making their experience at the college a success.

Getting Started

All Veterans wishing to attend Gateway should call the Veteran Services Office at (203) 285-2146 to begin the enrollment process. Veterans should follow the college’s admissions process as outlined on the Admissions page. Veterans, even those using GI Bill benefits, should follow the student financial aid process as outlined on the Financial Aid page.

Applying for Veteran Administration GI Bill Educational Benefits

The VONAPP (Veteran Online Application) is available at www.gibill.va.gov. Veterans can complete the application on their own or receive assistance during their scheduled intake (see below).

What to Bring

  • Veterans should bring a copy of their discharge paperwork (DD-214) to verify their record of service, as well as their bank routing and account numbers to establish their direct deposit with the Veterans' Administration (VA). If you have already completed the VONAPP, and received your letter of eligibility from the VA, please bring that to your intake appointment.

Veteran Intake

  • All Veterans will meet one-on-one with Veterans' Office staff to complete initial paperwork and begin the enrollment process. Walk-in intakes are welcomed by appointment. Please contact us to schedule an appointment.

Veteran Orientation

  • Prior to the start of each semester, incoming Veteran students will be invited to participate in an orientation to familiarize them with the college. Orientation sessions will focus on academic programs, student services, GI Bill Compliance, and developing mentoring relationships between incoming and continuing Veteran students.
