How Do I Resolve Problems with My Award?

The Financial Aid Office processes FAFSA applications in the order received. Some common problems with FAFSA applications are:

  • FAFSA Not Sent to Gateway Community College
    • If you did not choose to send your FAFSA to the college, myCommNet will not display the My Award Information. Visit FAFSA® Application | Federal Student Aid and add both Gateway Community College’s federal school code of 008037 and Capital Community College’s federal school code of 007635 to your FAFSA.
  • FAFSA Incomplete
    • If your FAFSA application is unsigned or incomplete, myCommNet will not display the My Award Information link under the Financial Aid tab. Check under the Eligibility Requirements link for instructions on how to resolve the problems.
  • Corrections to FAFSA Required
    • If corrections are needed due to conflicting data, you may submit them on your own by visiting FAFSA® Application | Federal Student Aid, or by visiting Gateway Community College’s Financial Aid Office to submit them in person. Remember to check under the Eligibility Requirements Corrections often take up to two weeks to be resolved by the federal government and submitted back to the college.
      • If visiting the Gateway Community College Financial Aid Office in person, please bring proper identification.
    • Selected for Federal Verification
If you have been selected for verification, you will receive an email from Gateway Community College’s Financial Aid Office. Remember to check under the Eligibility Requirements link to complete the required Verification Worksheet and submit all required documentation.

What Happens if You Apply Late?

Late applications will be awarded on a funds-available basis. Please note that some grant funds are limited and may not permit awarding to all eligible students, especially those who apply late.

Federal law prohibits release of student information to any party other than the student. For further details, please review the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
