EMR - Emergency Medical Responder *

Emergency Medical Responders are often the first on the scene of a health crisis, such as a heart attack, traffic accident, emergency childbirth or severe bleeding.

EMRs Provide:

• Determine possibility of preexisting medical condition

• Determine correct initial treatment of patient based on assessment and current situation

• Provide lifesaving CPR with defibrillation using an AED

• Stabilize patient for transport

• Report critical information to other EMS professionals

• Stabilize bones and joints

• Control bleeding; dress and bandage wounds

• Provide advanced respiratory devices in some non-emergency cases

• Transport patients in ambulance or chair car for specialized treatment or care

 

EMRs are the entry level for:

  Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers

  Advancing to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level of training

• Providing the most basic emergency service that may be the most important

 

EMR program consists of a formal 84-hour class and includes:

• Extensive Cognitive and Psychomotor learning skills

• Demonstration of the required National Registry curriculum components


 EMR course is appropriate for Police, Firefighters and anyone interested in pursuing a career in Emergency Medical Services.

This is an excellent entry into becoming an EMT, PCT, CNA, LPN, RN, PA or even an MD. Successful completion of this class will qualify the student to apply for certification as an EMR by the National Registry of EMT's (NREMT) and the CT Dept. of Public Health (DPH).

 Program Requirements:

  Must be physically capable of bending, kneeling, lifting patients and equipment

  All students must have a valid CT State Driver’s License
