Gateway Community College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (Region XXI) and abides by its rules of eligibility and code of ethics. Intercollegiate sports include women’s and men’s basketball. Gateway also offers intramural sports. At Gateway, you’ll have the opportunity to become a part of a winning tradition. The men’s team has made nine appearances in the NJCAA Region XXI tournament. Several of our players have been named All-American, as well as all New-England. We also have former players that have been inducted into the National Junior College Basketball Hall of Fame. Gateway’s basketball program not only strives for you to become a great athletic, but a great student first. Our program focuses on the student athlete experience. Granting our student athletics access to study halls, tutoring, and academic support services. We have had numerous student athletes successfully transfer to 4-year institutions, including: Southern Connecticut State University, Albertus Magnus College, Central Connecticut State University, University of New Haven and more.

The goals of the Gateway Community College Athletics Program are to develop a championship basketball program, to foster good sportsmanship, to encourage the physical well-being of our student athletes, to build a sense of school spirit and to instill a love for the game in our athletes. While having a championship basketball program is a goal of the athletic program, your academic success and wellbeing are most important to us. The Athletics Program and each of your coaches are committed to your academic excellence. Through offering intercollegiate, intramural, and club sports, the Gateway athletics program seeks to promote the development of physical, mental, and emotional aspects of students. Through this program, the men and women of Gateway are provided with opportunities to develop their potential as athletes in activities appropriate to their level of ability. In its work, the program consciously cultivates the qualities of determination, perseverance, sportsmanship, and teamwork in promotion of positive self-concept.
