I am struggling with personal issues that are impacting my performance in school. What services are available?

During the initial meeting, the counselor will assess your needs and make recommendations based on their professional opinion and in collaboration with you. In some cases, students are referred to providers outside of GCC. This decision is made on a case-by-case basis and is determined by the appropriateness of counseling for your individual situation, our expertise in treating your particular problem, the availability of staff and other resources, and other factors.

Counselors can also review potential GCC support options such as:

  • Center for Students & Families. For more information on our Mobile Food Pantry, emergency housing assistance, Income Supports, Public Benefits Screenings, and Assistance for students, please click here.
  • Student Accessibility Services to address potential classroom accommodations.
  • Achievement Coaching, designed to support students through a series of different strategies, such as:

o Goal setting
o Study skills
o Time management
o Note taking
o Test anxiety & test taking
o Learning styles
