On Monday, June 19, 2017, WNPR hosted a press conference from the second floor of Gateway Community College. CEO of Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, Jerry Franklin, broke the news that soon WNPR will be broadcasting from Gateway Community College (GCC), moving from their current location in Hartford.

WNPR is a one of over 900 radio stations that are under the National Public Radio media organization that is privately owned and publicly funded. WNPR is owned by Connecticut Public Broadcast Network and has been in the airwaves of Connecticut, Western Massachusetts and Eastern Long Island since 1978.

Moving to downtown New Haven will not only benefit the host of Morning Edition, Diane Orson, who will have a shorter commute, but it will also provide internship opportunities to students of GCC. In these internships, students will learn about editing audio, covering journalist pieces, and ultimately covering local events for WNPR.

President of the Board of Regents Mark Ojakian and GCC President Dorsey Kendrick, and host of the Faith Middleton Show, Faith Middleton, also attended the press conference.
