Rich Rees, Business Professor and Business Department Chair, received the Faculty Appreciation Award May 15 at the Awards Convocation.

Rees was nominated by the Business Department for his impact as a teacher and leader. He served as chair of the Business Department for 13 years. During that time, he contributed to the growth and development of new programs and certificates.

A nomination letter, signed by twelve of his colleagues, spoke of how Rees engaged students through innovative activities to convey business communication and critical thinking skills. Sharing business knowledge from years of experience in the corporate world, Rees provided students with guidance to develop their own abilities for business success.

He co-created the Money Management for Life course at GCC. Rees also taught the Launch a Business course, a collaborative effort with Housatonic Community College and seven four-year schools to prepare students for competition.

Outside the classroom, he has provided students with course assistance and career advice.  Rees, who retired May 31, always made himself available to faculty to discuss teaching issues and challenges.

He received a Bachelor of Science from Central Connecticut State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Haven. During his time at GCC, he earned the state Board of Regents Outstanding Achievement and Service Award. He also received two Management Merit Awards.
