The Early Childhood Program was recognized for achieving program approval to offer the Early Childhood Teacher Credential (ECTC) Pathway. This Certificate of Recognition was awarded by Dr. Gregory Gray, president, Board of Regents and Dr. Myra Jones-Taylor, executive director, Office of Early Childhood. ECE received the award at the Connecticut Association for the Education of Young Children Annual Conference held in October 2013.

The ECTC is a competency-based credential awarded by the Connecticut State Department of Education. Graduates of the Early Childhood Program at GCC are eligible to apply for both Infant/Toddler ECTC and Preschool ECTC. With the ECTC a teacher will meet the current educational requirements to work in a state-funded program.

And in other news from the early childhood center:

Dr. Tom Fahy facilitated an October open forum for parents represented due to Josh Berrios' male involvement program. The Modified Montessori classroom walked to the Farmer's Market downtown. Parents, children, and GCC students were involved in the trip. On Nov. 23 families toured the Yale Center for British Art. The theme was "Animals in Art" and there were special activities for the children. This tour is part of ELC's initiative to acquaint families with New Haven's cultural life, and demonstrate that museums are accessible to young children. ELC teachers completed a Teacher's Seminar this summer at the museum, and classroom activities include developmentally appropriate plans centered on great works of art. Families visited the Fantasy of Lights on Dec. 6.
