FREE IT Training Offered Through GREAT Center

The GREAT Center at Gateway Community College is offering FREE Information Technology training programs through the TechHire grant and the CTN ext grant. The goal of these programs is to create a talented workforce to fill the region’s growing demand for highly skilled IT professionals in software development, programming, graphic and digital printing, networking and website development.

The FREE IT classes offerings include:

  • The Desktop Support/A+ CompTIA Certificate prepares students for entry - level positions in the fields of Help Desk services and Technical Support. Students will be equipped with the skills needed to understand both computer hardware/software and deliver technical support to end users.
  • The Digital Media Publishing Certificate will provide hands - on training in graphic arts and digital production printing technology in a Mac - based environment. Students will receive an exam voucher to become an Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) in Adobe InDesign upon completion of the program.
  • The Network+ CompTIA Certificate will equip students with basic networking skills and concepts such as installing and configuring the TCP/IP client. Upon completion of this program, students will receive a voucher for the Network+ Certification exam.
  • The Web Development Certificate gives students ‘in - demand’ web development skills that are vital for careers in Web Development, Q*A, database integration programming and other server - side components. Web development skills being taught include: PHP, MySQL, jQuery, HTM L5 and CSS3.
  • The Web Design Certificate is designed for students, working adults, artists and designers interested in exploring the expanding field of web design. The course willprovide foundational skills required for those wishing to build website portfolios for personal and professional applications.
  • The Business Analyst Certificate provides the necessary skills and industry certification (IIBA//ECBA) that can lead to a ‘Business Analyst’ career. Industry experts will train students in problem analysis, requirement gathering, Agile system development, data mining and project management basics.

The GREAT Center, Gateway’s Resource, Education and Training Center, supports the businesses, organizations and job seekers in the greater New Haven area by offering hands-on work experience. Programs are non-credit but are typically tied to industry - recognized credentials and may be eligible for college credit or continuing education units (CEUs).
