Safety Tips

  1. Always lock vehicles before leaving them.
  2. Have your car keys in hand before leaving the building.
  3. Look inside your vehicle before entering it.
  4. Walk in pairs or groups whenever possible and make sure that everyone reaches his or her destination safely.
  5. Report suspicious activities, persons, or vehicles to Campus Police immediately.
  6. Do not carry large sums of money or other valuables on your person. If someone demands or grabs your purse or wallet, do not resist.
  7. Avoid parking in deserted areas, especially after dark.
  8. Park in a well-lit area.
  9. If it is necessary to stay after class, make special arrangements for returning to your car.
  10. Take the shortest, most direct and well-lit route possible.

Clery Act Compliance

Gateway Community College herein complies with the State of Connecticut's Campus Safety Act, Public Act 90-259 and with the Clery Act, both of which mandates the annual publication of a Uniform Campus Crime Report, and establishes a process for raising awareness of safety on college campuses. Broader awareness of campus safety issues and procedures at Gateway Community College is the first step toward improving the security of students and staff.
